Nantucket's Veranda House Opens for Season After Renovations to 1684 Building |
|
Fretwork Is Out; Frette Is In For Guests Seeking Authentic Luxury and Boutique Style On World-Class Island |
Out with fretwork; in with Frette. Out with chocolates at turn-down; in with ginger whale cookies on your pillow. Out with autos; in with island-bound ferries and bicycles.
You're on Nantucket and checking in at the recently renovated Veranda House offering 21st century high-end amenities, personalized services and a new boutique style in a 1684 building making it a few decades younger than the first Mayflower journey.
Located in the center of Nantucket Town, the landmark Veranda House is perched atop Step Lane, one of the island's highest points. The hotel was named for its three wrap-around balconies which offer unsurpassed views of Nantucket Harbor. A handful of the 16 guestrooms, which includes a one-bedroom suite, feature private verandas providing the perfect setting for harbor gazing during morning coffee, afternoon tea or evening cocktails. The hotel's central location makes it easy for guests to explore the town's numerous art galleries, world-class dining venues and shops.
Guests of the Veranda House will enjoy an epicure's morning repast included in the nightly accommodation rate from $199 mid June through Dec. 9, 2006 (November rates from $119). A sample breakfast might include organic yogurt, artisanal cheeses and a gourmet frittata. Afternoon tea and cookies are served daily and a hosted wine and cheese reception is held Wednesday and Saturday evenings. The hotel's international staff will cater to each guests' needs (there is one staff member per every two guestrooms) be it arranging breakfast or bubbly on their veranda, dinner reservations at hard-to-book hot spots, rental car reservations or private island tours complete with gourmet picnics.
Lulled by sea breezes, guests may find it difficult to rouse themselves from Frette- and- duvet-draped feather beds outfitted with a selection of decadent pillows. Extra special touches in each room include hand-blown Simon Pearce lamps, Italian tile rain showers, bath amenities by Fresh and nature's own 'fresh' product, a vase of flowers. An additional amenity that is complimentary to all guests is wireless high speed internet available throughout the Inn, as well as in-room data ports.
The Nantucket experience in today's fast-paced world is right up there amongst the world-class travel icons. Seasonal events include the upcoming June 14-18 Nantucket Film Festival. Cranberry and scallop celebrations mark fall and winter as does the 33rd annual Christmas Stroll Weekend Dec. 1-3. In late April is the annual Daffodil Festival and in May the Nantucket Wine Festival.
Nearly 40 percent of the island, formerly a whaling capital, is under conservation to preserve its wild moors and sandy beaches. The harbor front where Veranda House is located is a National Historic District replete with cobblestone and brick and old-fashioned street lamps.
