  • HTrends Completed by nearly 4,000 travelers, the survey results showed that 85.7 percent of respondents expect to take one-to-three leisure trips through March 31, 2010.

Results from a survey distributed to travelers by BedandBreakfast.com, the largest online B&B directory and reservation network worldwide, showed that Americans continue to plan B&B travel through the first quarter of 2010.

Completed by nearly 4,000 travelers, the survey results showed that 85.7 percent of respondents expect to take one-to-three leisure trips through March 31, 2010. Nearly one in four (23.1%) respondents said they'll take more trips in the first quarter of 2010 than in 2009, and 63 percent of respondents plan to take the same number of trips in first quarter of 2010 as in 2009. Only 13 percent of respondents plan to take fewer leisure trips during the first quarter of 2010 than in 2009. More than 72 percent of respondents expect to stay in a bed and breakfast or county inn, followed by 36 percent who planned to stay in a three-star hotel.

The survey also showed that travelers will continue to stay close to home for B&B getaways in 2010. Nearly one in two travelers (49%) anticipated their first quarter 2010 trips will be within one tank's distance (up to 150 miles from home).

'The survey results are a good sign for the B&B industry,' said John Banczak, President and COO of BedandBreakfast.com. 'Travelers are responding to a strengthening economy by planning B&B getaways. With vacation deprivation a consistent travelers' complaint, B&Bs offer the ideal 'one tank' getaway,' explained Banczak.

In contrast, the BedandBreakfast.com survey showed that the weakness in business travel is continuing. Just over 14 percent of respondents planned to take one business trip during the first quarter of 2010 and only six percent said they would take two. When asked how this compared to the first quarter of 2009, nearly 85% of respondents said they planned the same number or fewer business trips for the first quarter of 2010.

The BedandBreakfast.com survey was distributed in January 2010 and completed by nearly 4000 people who have opted to receive information from BedandBreakfast.com. To request detailed results from BedandBreakfast.com's Q1 2010 traveler survey, simply contact Marti@BedandBreakfast.com.
